Search Engine Optimization Fundamentals

The greatest question that all webmasters alike want to know the answers to is what search
engine optimization techniques work the best in getting your web site listed in the top 5 google results.

This is why I have written this article about Search Engine Optimization Fundamentals.

From what i have seen from so many web site builders is that they start off with a web site and then try to get people to visit their web site.

This is typical of a majority of webmasters today and is typically the fundamental mistake that they make.

\"What?\" you may think.

Let me explain...

Just like any type of business, if you come up an idea that you think is great, you will generally talk it over with your friends and family and they will think it is a good idea also. Just like any supporting friend or relative they want to see you succeed.

The problem with this scenario is that just because your immediate circle of influence thinks its a great idea, doesn\'t mean that there is a target market waiting to buy your product.

What seems like a great idea to you, might not even get a second thought by the vast diversity of consumers in today\'s saturated markets.

Lets face it, when someone calls you or comes to your front door to show you how the latest widget will change your life, are you paying attention or are you just thinking about how to get rid of them.

Them same applies to internet marketing.

Webmasters tend to do everything backwards.

First they come up with idea that everyone is sure to like, i mean why not?

Second they choose the keywords that best describes the site,

and thirdly they submit it to all the possible search engines, blogs, link exchanges, forums and discussion groups, then sit back and wonder why they get limited web site traffic.

The traffic that they do get is mainly people using the same link exchanges and traffic generators because that\'s how they generate credits for people like themselves to visit their sites.

I\'ve seen this technique used time and again with its only result ending in disappointment.

Let me outline the correct fundamentals.

1. Find out what keyword group people are searching for.

2. Find out how deep you can mine this keyword group, at least 20 rich keyword phrases to make it worthwhile.

3. Find out the difficulty of these keywords and see who your competition is.

4. Find out how often these keywords are being searched for.

5. If your looking to put google adsense on your site to make money, find out how much webmasters are bidding for these keywords.

6. Find out if you can trade links with the same type of sites.

7. Find out if there are any discussion groups relating to the keyword group, if not you might want to create one.

8. Now and only now is it time to start building your site if you find at least 20 keyword phrases that are getting at least a few thousand searches a month with a low difficulty where the webmasters bidding makes it worthwhile if you are using google adsense.

If you can line all these up, then look to see if there are other websites and discussion groups that you can submit incoming links to your site.

Now this is not an easy task and can take days to find the right keywords to build a site around.

Remember the Golden Rule...

Build your site around keywords that people are searching for, don\'t try and get people to come to your site by building keywords around your site.

Next issue I will go more into the tools that we use to achieve exactly what we want for free.
